Welcome to the Research, Development and Extension Program of AECL
The Research, Development and Extension (RD&E) Program of the Australian Egg Corporation Limited (AECL) invests in the egg industry on behalf of egg producers, the government, and the community as a whole.
Our goal is to explore and improve efficiency, sustainability, egg quality, education and technology transfer in the Australian egg industry.
This is achieved through the funding and delivery of:
• research projects
• feasibility studies
• training
• dissemination of information, advice or assistance
• reports, periodicals, books or papers on R&D activity.

Results
• Since 2000, 130 projects across eight major objectives with investment totaling $21 million.
• For an outlay of approximately $4.4 million, levy paying producers have been able to direct a $21 million egg research portfolio.
• Most research has been directed toward flock health, disease management, feed, nutrition, husbandry and hen welfare.
• All Australian Government Rural Research Priorities addressed with the exception of climate change (which was added in 2007).
• Initial portfolio analysis reveals that the majority of investments are assessed as having either a medium or high impact on the Australian egg industry.
• Initial portfolio assessment also reveals that there has been a very high orientation of projects towards those that deliver both producer and community benefits. In only 5% of cases would these projects have been funded in the absence of current levy arrangements.
